FrumFind.org » 2010 » March

FrumFind.org » 2010 » March: "It just so happens that my mother was a hidden child in Poland during the holocaust. My mom had some contact with her family however she survived by specifically making it a point not to reveal her Jewish identity to the families where she stayed. The entire family was able to survive World War II, and come to the United States They were not religious when they were in Poland, so naturally they were not religious when they began their life in the United States.
One might imagine that I would be brought up with a degree of hatred or a judgmental nature. However I can state for the record that I was raised specifically not to hate specific groups of people because of who they are. I was raised not to judge people by narrow standards, but was rather taught to try to understand the other persons perspective"

Our Blogrolling Policy | Popehat

Our Blogrolling Policy | Popehat: " If you’re looking for a link to your daughter’s “Bratz”-collecting blog, do you really want to receive traffic from the people who come here to read about law, theism, Hegelian idealism, crime, or cannibal zombies and the destruction they wreak, destruction that can only be ended by killing the brain so the body will die? And we’re mild-mannered men compared to some of our readers, who cuss like sailors.

If so, send an email to ken at popehat dot com, and we’ll be happy to add you in return for a reciprocal blogroll link."

SAN Cloud 9: FrumFind.org: "FrumFind.org: "it’s my belief and concern as people become more and more “networked” their list of “networked” friends versus true friends will become increasingly difficult to manage. I would like to suggest that people stay in contact utilizing a simple e-mail format.
What I suggest if you have a large list of friends, send out about 50 or so e-mails over the next few days to stay in touch, make it personal or keep it general. Just as texting is the new, “hi, how are things kind of call” a quick e-mail update, even if not personal is a way to stay connected.""

The Month of Elul - My Jewish Learning

The Month of Elul - My Jewish Learning: " As the Maharal of Prague said, "All the month of Elul, before eating and sleeping, a person should look into his soul and search his deeds, that he may make confession."

Jewish tradition points to the name of the month as symbolically appropriate--the letters of Elul form an acronym for the words in the verse Ani le‑dodi ve‑dodi li--"I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine" (Song of Songs 6:3). Believing that the "beloved" refers to God, the sages take this verse to describe the particularly loving and close relationship between God and Israel. Elul, then, is our time to establish this closeness so that we can approach the Yamim Noraim, or Days of Awe, in trusting acceptance of God's judgment. We approach the trial not out of fear, but out of love."
